Large Enchodus Tooth Fang in Jaw Cretaceous Morocco COA 3994

Description

Here is a genuine fossil tooth from an Enchodus, from the Cretaceous, the last era of the dinosaur.  From Morocco, the tooth (also called a fang) is still connected to part of its jaw.
Enchodus was a fish with four "fangs" at the front of its mouth, leading to the popular nickname of "Saber-tooth herring", though it was much larger than a herring (about 5 feet).
This tooth measures about 1.6 inches, not counting root. The matrix is about 4.6 inches, and it weighs 1 lb. 1.4 oz.  There are lot of bit of vertebrae and other bones throughout the rock, on both sides.  There is a natural crack neaar the top of the tooth, but since the whole thing is in-Situ (original resting place), it is firm in the matrix.
Commercial phosphates are a big business in Morocco. This piece was likely saved from a crusher that would have made it into phosphates.  A tiny bit of "sand" will come off as you handle it, but not enough to hurt the beauty of the piece.  No paint has been applied.
We are happy to enclose a COA (Certificate of Authenticity).  Some words of caution about COA’s: Do not let them become a substitute for learning about the specimens. We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA’s, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. In addition, the person selling the item is often the one who writes the COA (potential conflict of interest). Finally, a COA, without a photo of the exact item on the COA itself,  is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral.  We suggest that instead of relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject.
