Canvas leggings are another iconic piece of a Spanish American War through Korean War GI's field gear that was meant to protect the ankles and calves from contact with sharp cutting vegetation and brush, and even chemical weapons and also when properly sized gave additional support to the ankles!
The Boy Scouts were using them too! These official Boys Scouts of America gaiters being offered date from the mid 1950s - most likely, as they were recovered with other Scouting items that dated from that time........making them very rare indeed..!! These very light khaki or off-white canvas leggings were probably used when the Boy Scouts were on color guard detail at a high school football game or some other local sports event when the Unites States Flag was still hoinored and the National Anthem was still played and sung with Honor by a Proud Honorable People....
These leggings are in fine+ to near very fine condition and have few, if any flaws or issues, and no rips or tears in the shells. The cotton canvas material is generally in near excellent condition! All brass eyelets and hook loops are present, and are even still mostly bright! The buckles appear to be black painted steel as they are attracted by a magnet.
Note
:
There are 5
brass
hook loops and 11
brass
eyelets on this vintage pair of BSA gaiters. All are in Very Fine+ to near Excellent condition. The laces are generally in fine+ condition with slightly frayed ends on one.. there is a spot fray on that same lace (see photo 9). There is no real evidence of soiling
on the inside
or outside... I do believe they have never been laundered.. I did not attempt it.. careful hand washing (only) is recommended... these were worn, however you will be hard pressed to find a better example of mid 1950s BSA gaiters, especially in this rare color.
The BSA stamp on the inside of each gaiter reads "Boys Scouts of America National Council" (photo 5). The National Council moved from New York City to New Jersey in 1954... so that defines the earliest date these gaiters could be from.....!!! [unlikely given the previous information]
NOTE
:
This pair of
BSA gaiters
are being
sold strictly as-is
. There are 10 photos to explicitly show the condition that is described above.
These mid 1950s Boys Scouts gaiters are not reproductions, were made in the USA and are absolutely original to the period.

This beautifully engraved slide measures about 2-5/16" long by just barely over 1" high.
I don't collect Boy Scout memorabilia myself, so I am putting it out there for my friend to find a new home with someone who does.
Note
:
The neckerchief slide is in Excellent, Mint, unused condition.
This rare late 1976 dated American Revolution Bicentennial Camporee neckerchief slide (Phoenix, Arizona), BSA is absolutely original to the period and is directly from this man's personal Boy Scout memorabilia.

NOTE
:
As of March 2015 we will no longer be shipping to Mexico because of rampant fraudulent buyers and lack of seller support from eBay and PayPal
to mitigate the problem
-
Thank You to my, good, former customers in Mexico
- Sorry for any inconvenience..!!
eBay's fees are very expensive and you can help me keep costs down by giving top numbers in detailed seller ratings (DSRs). If you feel there is a problem just let me know before you leave feedback so I have a chance to resolve any issue. NM sales tax will be charged to New Mexico residents only.
I will gladly combine on the shipping but please WAIT to pay so I can easily combine your shipping total. I will happily sell overseas, but I insist (as does eBay) on shipping with a tracking number of some sort via priority or express.
I will not declare a lower amount on the customs form! Please do not ask me to do so.
I welcome buyers from all over the world. Thank you for looking!
